MENTORING SERVICES
TEAM can offer a wide range of services depending on the needs of the young person/s. Sessions can be a one off or part of a series, given a specific time scale. All sessions/programmes are planned and prepared in advance and tailored to individual need following discussions with the referrer and young person/s.
1:1 MENTORING
The 1:1 Mentoring programme is a planned and structured intervention providing support to individuals so they develop confidence and resilience, and to improve behaviour and engagment in the school community. WHO? 1:1 mentoring is for young people who are: - at risk of suspension or permanent exclusion from school - suffering from low level anxiety and/or low mood - victims of bullying - potentially disrupting the learning/school environment and /or community - struggling with low emotional resilience - long term absent from school (EBSA) or struggling to attend school regularly - disengaged from school/learning - Looked After Children (LAC) - young people under the care of Bucks Children's Services (CP, CIN, FSS) - going through life changes, challenges and/or trauma in their home, family, community or school environment - young people with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) - students on PSP's or Managed moves ​ WHAT? 1:1 mentoring is - young person centred - it is their voice - a friendly and trusting relationship - non judgemental - an authentic interest in the individual - walking alongside the young person on their journey of self discovery and improvement - an opportunity to make improvements and change for the better - a highly effective intervention for challenging and changing problematic behaviour ​ WHY? 1:1 mentoring - empowers the young person to resolve their issues and find a focus - identifies coping strategies now and for the future - provides an honest, positive and trusting relationship with an adult - improves relationships self esteem/confidence and mental health - improves performance and therefore school engagement - improves attendance at school - reduces disruption and staff time managing behaviour ​ HOW? 1:1 mentoring with TEAM provides a role model for the young person academically, socially and personally by - encouraging self reflection and the base from which the young person can build their vision of a brighter future - acknowledging strengths and talents and celebrating successes - identifying barriers to development - enabling the young person to develop characteristics such as determination, self control, self confidence and self belief - setting realistic, achievable and meaningful targets which are monitored and reviewed regularly - working collaboratively with school, other professionals and parents - lending perspective to situations and challenges and bringing questions and discussion to foster self decision making - allowing the young person time to find the answers within themselves
GROUP
MENTORING
Small group Mentoring offers a structured, timetabled curriculum to transform engagement and behaviour for a successful reintegration into the classroom. WHO? group mentoring is for - maximum of 4 students in one group - students that are disrupting classroom learning - students that find it challenging to manage their behaviour during unstructured or unsupervised times - students that would benefit from a curriculum focusing on the values and ethos of the school - students who lack motivation/aspirations WHAT? Group mentoring is - structured and planned according to the needs of the students and the school's focus/values - an alternative curriculum for an agreed length of time for example during form time, half a day, a whole day, one session per week. - interactive and engaging for the students involved WHY? Group mentoring - provides the opportunity for students to develop and practise their communication skills with each other and adults  - secures an understanding of respect, responsibility and tolerance - improves school engagement - reduces disruption in and out of the classroom ​ HOW? Group mentoring - makes students feel safe and listened to - allows time out and the opportunity for a reset - reminds the students of thier qualities and how they can use these for success - students can focus on how to re-create a positive self image in the school community through group actions and incentives
